Udon Thani hotels
Udon Thani, located 560 kilometers northeast of Bangkok, is the provincial capital of Udon Thani Province in the north-eastern Isaan region of Thailand.
The city was given an economic shot in the arm back in the 1960's and early 1970's, when the US built a military base here. The base was handed over to the Thai military in 1976, though some of the influences of that era still remain. Reminders such as western style restaurants, cafe's, bars, coffee shops and hotels.
Udon Thani is probably best known for its archaeological wonders, paramount among them the hamlet of Ban Chiang where the world's first Bronze Age civilization is believed to have flourished more than 5,000 years ago. It is the world heritage site for the prehistoric culture of Ban Chiang.
Today Udon Thani functions as a transport hub and an agricultural market centre for the surrounding area and although it only receives a passing mention in guide books, it is a pleasant town to visit and spend time in.
